THE FLIGHT OF IMAGINATION

In the sixth level of English I teach, there is an activity about gadgets in the course text book. I have adapted it. I ask my students to join me in the creation of imaginary devices to solve particular problems. First, I guide them to take sometime to picture an original invention on our minds. Once we are ready, we quick write about it, share our first drafts, and give and receive feedback in terms of likes, questions, and suggestions about our pieces of writing. This semester, during the sharing time, I noticed that their imaginary inventions and the quality of writing were great. Then I asked them to revise and edit their pieces of writing and e-mail them to me. I hope you enjoy two of the imaginary  inventions my students and I created. Do not hesitate to write a comment on the need of devices like these and their existence as well.

THE UNIVERSAL SEAWATER FILTER

      The wonderful world in which we live in has amazing things to enjoy. However, It has a big list of problems such as global warming, pollution, overpopulation. And on top of that, we have shortage of drinking water. Luckily, the last one is not a problem anymore, because our world is composed by a 70% of water. This means that the solution is on our hands thanks to the Universal Seawater Filter. This gadget is a very powerful machine that is capable of purifying the seawater into drinking water. It is easy to use. You just have to introduce one or two gallons of salty water. Then push one button and the machine will start to boil the water. Then it turns into vapor and the salt disappears. Later, the vapor turns back into water, but this time without salt. This process is named desalination.

The learning device

 If I had the opportunity to create something useful that would help millions of people, it would be “The Learning Device”. It is a microchip which will help us learn any language in the world. This small device will be connected to the human skull and send the necessary information to our brain. To connect it, we will need a surgery process in which doctors open the skull and paste the microchip in the lower side of our skull. This device will send the information to the neurons through electric signals. It would take time for this process to be assimilated by the brain. With this device, the learning process would be faster and easier than the common process, and it is not only about languages.  It would help us learn anything we would like to learn.

ENGLISH LEARNING AND LOVE FOR THE LAND

Hello, everyone,

Once, this semester (2019-1), I was teaching a lesson to my sixth-semester-of-English students at UASD, San Francisco de Macorís, Dominican Republic. That lesson was related to places somehow. As a strategy,I prompted my students to quick write about a city or town they like. We quick wrote, shared our first drafts, and gave feedback to one another. Since I noticed that they had written very good paragraphs, I asked them to send their paragraphs to my e-mail. They did. I liked all of them and decided to share two of them with you all.                                          Las Terrenas

             Las Terrenas is a small town located in Samaná, in the northeastern part of the Dominican Republic. In spite of being a small town, there are many things you can do in order to have fun and also experience an unforgettable vacation. Las Terrenas is well known for its marvelous touristic places. It has the most beautiful white sand beaches you can find, and there are many luxurious hotels where comfort is the priority. During the day, you can go around the town riding special four-wheels; moreover, there are many stalls where you can get souvenirs, which you can use to represent our country or remember your time in Las Terrenas. When it comes to foods, there´s no need to be worried. You will be astonished by the variety of restaurants. You can find Mexican, Italian, Chinese restaurants, and so on. People who visit those restaurants have the amazing opportunity to taste foods originally from other countries. Besides, you  have the chance to meet people from everywhere. Many tourists visit Las Terrenas. It is a perfect opportunity to get to know more about different cultures, which is good because it helps you to discover more about your own culture. On the other hand, talking about nightlife is not less important but interesting. There are many discos you can visit around the town, on the seashore, or near any hotel you are staying in. To sum up, you will have a perfect time. I´ve been there, and I’m looking forward to the summer to go to Las Terrenas again and have another amazing experience. 

PUNTA CANA

Punta Cana is one of my favorite places in the Dominican Republic. It has many beautiful beaches where you can find a lot of tourists from many countries around the world. Also, there are many excursions where you can enjoy and learn about marine life. Its hotels are amazing, one of my favorite is Barceló premium Punta Can, but there are a lot others that are very good, too. Nightlife in Punta Cana is interesting because, believe or not, for tourists it’s very expensive, but for local people it’s not expensive at all. There’s a good and famous Disco which is located in San Juan mall and it’s one of the most popular attractions there. In conclusion, I think Punta Cana has it all and it’s good for us as local people and for tourist, too.
