Unexpected News

Thursday, November 14th, 2013

The news about Palito de Coco, Rumai, is not as it was expected. After his presentation on a TV program called ´´De Extremo a Extremo´´ and his participation in a stadium with Las Aguilas baseball team, Rumai divulged in La Súper Revista Program that he had been deceived by his manager, Oliver Peña, who denied everything. Oliver claimed not to have received money from these activities. He said that he had only received $ 3000 dollars From Frederick Martinez (El Pacha) for taking part in a TV commercial, and that he has given $1700 dolars to Rumai, more than 50 percent as established in the contract. Oliver Peña said that he would sue Rumai for defamation. Let’s wait what will happen.

The Oldest Rivalry in the Dominican Republic

The Oldest Rivalry in the Dominican Republic

December is a month in which people in the Dominican Republic come together and agree on everything, except for one thing: baseball. The Dominican Winter League started again, and thousands of people have been attending to the different stadiums countrywide. This season the six teams have been playing very well, but every single basebal fan thinks his or her team is the one that will win the national championship. The traditional teams, Aguilas Cibaeñas and Tigres del Licey, have been on top of the rest of teams. Aguilas fans tease Licey fans saying that their team is the best, but Licey fans say they will win because their team has the best players of the league. They often forget that there are other four teams, and that any of them could win the championship. Last year, Aguilas Cibaeñas were on top of the rest of the teams during the regular season, but at the end of the season they were defeated 5-0 by a team that ended up in fourth place. So, I think that, instead of arguing about which is the best team, it would be better if we enjoyed every game and waited untill the end of the season to know which is the best, wouldn't it?

2013-1 BULLETIN BOARD

As every semester, the English Composition Class at Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo, Recinto San Francisco de Macorís published their final papers on the bulletin board. Here are some images of that great adventure.

Here, two women writers decorate de bulletin board in
                                         the Foreign Languages Room.

They are hard working and happy women writers, aren´t they?

They take some time to pose.

Beautiful colors

More posing. This time, they combined the posing with some work.

At times, the glue is a problem.

It takes some concentration an confort to do such a great job!

Now, the bulletin board is ready. It can't wait to have all those great ideas on.

The Posting

It is always great to see how writers work as a team.

THE CLASSROOMS AT THE UNIVERSIDAD AUTONOMA DE SANTO DOMINGO, RECINTO SAN FRANCISCO DE MACORIS

By Aneiry Santos

How are the classrooms at the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo, Recinto San Francisco de Macorís? Everyone could imagine that this higher learning center has the best conditions in its classrooms, including an excellent organization and the necessary materials for teaching and learning. Classrooms are very important. Working in clean and organized classrooms is good for teachers and students. Unfortunately, they have some problems that do not make them the best classrooms.

The hygiene in the classrooms at the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo, Recinto San Francisco de Macorís is not very good. Everybody can see how the classrooms look. Although some of them are clean, others are not. The vast majority is dirty, with trash on their floors and dust on their furniture. Many classrooms sometimes do not have the proper conditions for teaching and learning. The smell of dust, the dirty walls, and the mess on the floors is what the students and teachers find in their classrooms. In addition, a few students consider that the authorities of this higher learning center must contribute to solve this problem because it is difficult to work in dirty classrooms. They also consider that the employees of the stewardship department, which is in charge of the hygiene in all the classrooms, should take more care about it, but the employees say that they are doing their job and the students do not help. In the meantime, some pupils recommend that this higher learning center should organize teams of employees that tell students how to keep the classrooms clean, and motivate them by using different resources like posters, speeches, wastebaskets, and so on.

Furthermore, there are some needs that the classrooms at the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo, Recinto San Francisco deMacorís have. First of all, it is important to mention that a few classrooms have the necessary materials for teaching and learning. One of those classrooms is the Modern Languages Room, The Digital Room, and The Computer Lab. On the other hand, others do not have more than three desks and a board. It is incredible to see empty classrooms, without desks, boards, wastebaskets, teachers´ desks, and so on. Many classrooms need enough fans, new boards, desks, and computer projectors. The opinion of a few students is that the authorities from this higher learning center are not paying attention to the needs in the classrooms. However the materials are not the only things that the classrooms need. Many of them need paint, new doors, and repair in their ceilings and walls.

Another topic that is not receiving much attention is the organization of the classrooms. Although there are some organized classrooms with the teachers´ and students´ desks very well located, others are very disorganized. The desks and chairs are in different places. The classrooms look like a mess. After each term, the pupils leave the classrooms messy and some teachers do not tell them anything about organization. Some teachers consider that students know what to do about organization because they are not kids. In contrast, learners guess that it is the responsibility of the teachers to tell them what to do about organization. Also, the students do not offer their help and do not know the importance of having organized classrooms.

In conclusion, hygiene, organization, and needs are not receiving enough attention at Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo, Recinto San Francisco de Macorís. The classrooms are the most important places of this higher learning center. It depends on students, teachers, and authorities to have a better place, but they are not offering enough help.

THE DRUGSTORE OF UNIVERSIDAD AUTONÓMA DE SANTO DOMINGO, RECINTO SAN FRANCISCO DE MACORÍS

By Suanny Hidalgo

The drugstore At Recinto San Francisco de Macorís is important for our society.  This drugstore calls the attention of the public in general. The people can find necessary medicine to buy. Also people who live in other cities come to get medical products.

The first aspect to explain is the good service of the drugstore at Universidad Autonóma de Santo Domingo, Recinto San Francisco de Macorís. This drugstore supplies medicine and sanitary imput to the community. Also these types of drugstores send medicine to hospitals, units of primary attention of the Health Public Ministry in the Dominican Republic and, to the members of the subsidized regime of Social Security.  The “People’s Drugstore” as the Health Public Ministry called it, offers cheap medicine to the users, Especially to people who don’t have money for buying common and other types of medicine.

Beyond that, this drugstore has the cheapest medicine. The Acetaminophen pill costs 0.20 cents and the most expensive is the Antitoxin Tetanica injections. The people visit the drugstore to buy more pills than syrups. In addition, the costumers buy more injection ampoules of antibiotics than other types of products (cotton, gloves, and descartables syringes). The sales are kept the same on college vacation. Stadistics says that 90% of the population comes to this popular drugstore.

The conditions of the drugstore are good. The floor and the walls are clean. The area is refreshed by a fan and an air conditioner. Inside the drugstore, there are sections to put medicine. The sections are divided in alphabetic order, no matter if syrups and pills are together. In this case, the alphabetic order is the most important. The sections have to be clean and in good conditions as well. Also, the medicine has to be cleaned for being sold and for the costumers who are the viewers and the users of this pharmacy. At the entrance, the drugstore has a glass door. It permits the public to see the products before they came in the place. The employees and the costumers feel good with the environment and the drugstore conditions. The employees have to clean it daily. The employees use this practice to offer a better service to the public.

In summary, the drugstore at Universidad Autonóma de Santo Domingo, Recinto San Francisco de Macorís requires more types of medicine, especially those that are escential. The people, who don’t have the economical conditions to buy expensive medicine, demand it. The population of San Francisco de Macorís must give more importance to this drugstore since it is a contribution offered from the state to the students and to the community, particularly to the people who don’t have enough economical resources. Therefore, the students have to fight for these types of drugstores continue bringing their service to the community.

By Juana M. Mendez Santiago
The facade at Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo, Recinto San Francisco de Macorís is the principal area to the college. It is an interesting and comfortable place for students. Here, teachers and students can enjoy the garden and recreate freely. It has different types of trees like pines and mangoes. It also has beautiful flowers with beautiful colors such as pink, purple, orange, and red. Besides, there is a statue that is the most important symbol of the college.
First, the Paint of the facade is appropriate for the University. It was chosen by an engineer named Patricio Alvares who chose it because all the institutions in the Dominican Republic are painted a similar color. The paint gives a beautiful view to the university. The facade is painted colonial white and apricot. The name of the college is painted blue, and the corridors for handicap people are blue and yellow. They painted the logo of the college blue, and its base white. The facade was painted on July 2012. It was painted by two men, and they were working for a month. The name of the pharmacy has different colors like blue, red, and black.
Furthermore, the garden has many things that make it very special. It has a beautiful view that is special for the university and the nearby areas. The job of the employees is to protect the garden and keep it in good conditions. The garden offers an excellent view for students and teachers. Many students enjoy and stay there, especially when it is hot. They can do many things under the trees like doing their homework and talking to friends or classmates. In the winter, for Christmas, many students and employees work on the garden and decorate it with many lights.
The statue is not only a symbol at the university. It is the symbolic representation of the Alma Mater. It means “Madre Nutricia.” This expression is used to designate the university. The woman has a hybrid profile, and her large breast represent the source of knowledge, which nurtures generations through education. The woman has the logo of the university in her hands. It is on a base which is decorated with different flowers.  The statue and the base are both white. There are different types of pines around the statue which are wonderful for the environment.
Finally, students and teachers enjoy the garden at Universidad Autonoma de Santo Domingo, Recinto San Francisco de Macorís. The different types of pine and flowers in the garden make it more especial, and the students can rest there. The colonial white paint gives a beautiful view to the university and helps that facade look better. The statue of the university is a legacy that represents all the students in this college.

International Events

International Events

Nowadays, we watch on tv, on the internet or newspaper, many bad international news. During the week I was searching information about the International events. One of the editors wrote about the events that happened in some countries around the world. Bad news about the politics problems, violence, vandalism, family problems are the principal news in the mass media. For example the explosion in Boston, the election in Venezuela after Chaves´ death, economics problems in Spain and other countries of Europe, a suicidal attempt on the embassy of the United States in Ankara (Turkey) stops three mortal victims. All this international events show us how the world is. My opinion as a citizen of the world is that the origin of these multiple events are caused by the man himself. we lost the love in ourself and to the other people. An inmportant thing to say is that the humanity does not remember of that we are done and where we go. In general we lost our identity and our personal value. my question for you readers, what you will do in order that your world changes? If you did something, comment us.

Cool Websites
There are many cool websites these days that everyone can visit for entertainment, studying, shopping, getting information about any topic, downloading music and so on. In my opinion visiting cool websites is something very advantageous when people do that for a good motive or need. For example, I visit some cool websites for looking for information when I am doing my homework, improving my English, and seeing music videos, on the other hand there are people that no visit cool websites for a good reason.Nowaday, many cool websites seem to be indispensable and have become famous because the amount of people that visit them for any interest. I mean that cool websites have been getting importance because they are sources of searching and also satisfy people needs according their intention, I read in a magazine that more cool websites will be developed in the future because the technology is growing up every day and people have more and more interest in new things. So here is my question: could people live without cool websites?
