JULIAN JAVIER STADIUM IN SAN FRANCISCO DE MACORIS

By Yeraldina Cruz

From its beginnings, Julian Javier stadium has had a meaningful history, good location, and a huge amount of entertaining activities. It is an important place for the inhabitants of San Francisco de Macorís due to the majority of people who live in the city like baseball games. This stadium is the biggest in the city and it is open for the public in general.

First of all, the history of Julian Javier Stadium is very interesting. The stadium was founded in 1975 in honor of a famous Dominican baseball player, Manuel Julian Javier Liranzo who was born on August 19th, 1936. The stadium is property of the state, but it is managed by LIDOM, the Dominican Baseball League. This stadium has had many different presidents such as Siquió NG De La Rosa, Stanley Javier, son of Julian Javier, and the actual president, Emil Risek. The stadium was built as a place where people from San Francisco de Macorís and other cities can go to have fun and get rid of the stress of work.

Besides, Julian Javier Stadium is really accessible. The stadium is located around one kilometer from the center of the city. We can get there really easily. The stadium is in front of the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo, Recinto San Francisco de Macorís. For students of the university, it is very easy to get there. Also for people who live in the center, the stadium is located in a good point of the city due to people can go there by bus and other kinds of public transportation. The Julian Javier stadium is in a beautiful part of the Duarte province. Its surroundings are green and very peaceful. Many people go to the stadium for relaxing and exercising.  The Julian Javier stadium is not only well located for people from San Francisco but also for people from other cities, such as Salcedo, Pimentel, Cotuí, Castillo, and so on.

The activities of Julian Javier stadium are the most entertaining in San Francisco de Macorís city. It is like a house, which receives many people since the day of its foundation. All baseball fans of the whole country arrive to the stadium to get delighted with the amazing baseball season that goes from October to January. The stadium can hold more than 12,500 people per game. It is really spacious. Many fans of the team, Gigantes del Cibao, wait for the beginning of  the games during the rest of the year. It is good to say that the activities made at the stadium are the most coveted by the Macorisano people. There people can enjoy the entertaining games each night.

In conclusion, Julian Javier stadium is the most visited and entertaining place in San Francisco de Macorís during the winter baseball season. Thousands of people gather here every year. Its great history could catch everyone’s attention. The easy access that the stadium provides, and the different kind of activities held there make of this stadium a unique place, where people from different places can attend and enjoy the perfect environment created for the entertainment of  families.

FRANCISCO HENRIQUEZ Y CARVAJAL HIGH SCHOOL IN COTUI

By Wandy Yoel Santana

‘’There is strength in numbers,’’ people say. Francisco Henriquez y Carvajal High School is the result of the union and great effort made by students and people from Sanchez Ramirez province. The high school is important for our society. The high school provides many facilities and its structure allows people to do different kinds of activities. Also, people from the country side come to this high school to develop new skills.

The foundation of Francisco Henriquez y Carvajal was turbulent. The school was founded on February,1957 by many important people such as teachers, lawyers, students, and residents of the area. Miguel Angel Garcia, José Altagracia Matos, Delsa Sanchez, And Antonio Estrella were some of the people involved in the advance of education in cotuí. The high school was located in front of the park. At the moment, there were just 108 students registered. Some years letter, the school was moved to the Banco Agricola building because of the big noise. In 1968, students and people around started protests. They stopped the traffic for hours and made big posters calling the government’s attention. The same year, the students burned the place they were studying in, forcing the authorities to look for a new place and build a well equipped school.  A family from Libertad community donated part of the land, helping the government to solve the problem. The sacrifice of many young people and adults resulted in the foundation of the most important high school in cotuí.

Also, Francisco Henriquez y Carvajan High School is not only the most important; it is the biggest high school in Sanchez Ramirez Province. It has three buildings surrounded by a big wall. At the entrance, there is the principal’s building with two rooms, the secretary’s and the principal’s office and the teacher’s office. To the left and right, there are the second and the third buildings, each one with fifteen rooms and six bathrooms. In the first level, there are the fourth grades. In the second level, there are the third grades, and in the third level there are the second and first grades. Besides, there is a computer laboratory and a library. Above the library, there is an assembly hall. Between the first and second buildings, there is a cafeteria. Next to them there is a green area and two basketball fields. The walls of the building are painted with patriotic and cultural symbols. This is an enjoyable place for the students, and its facilities transform the high school in one of the most important and biggest ones in the complete city of cotuí.

Beyond that, Francisco Henriquez y Carvajal High School’s Facilities has changed the lives of people in cotuí.  This high school has provided the communities in cotui with many changes through the years. Not only because it is a school, but also for its facilities. One reason for those changes is the big library the high school has, which allowed many students to enjoy different kinds of books, preventing students from traveling very far to obtain them. Another important reason is the computer laboratories that permit people to get information from the internet for free. Also, teachers teach computer courses for children and adult people, helping them to learn about computers in their free time. One of the most important reasons is the big activities hall the school has. It is used for teaching folklore, dance, technical courses, and other activities to take out people out of the streets and help them to be better in the future. Those are the reasons why people love the high school and how it changes lives in the community.

To Sum up, Francisco Henriquez y Carvajal high school is the most important and the biggest high school in Sanchez Ramirez Province. Its comfortable facilities make this high school a very important place for the children and adults to learn new knowledge and new technical skills. Therefore, Francisco Henriquez y Carvajal High School has archived great changes for Cotuí City.

Something we should change in order to have a better Society.

Something we should change in order to have a better          Society.

The way of having fun is something; we should change in order to have a better society. Since  long  time ago, we  have  come  asking  ourselves  why the society  is  getting  worst  in  this  aspect   of  life?    Why there are too much corruption   especially in   teenagers?      Ask ourselves this question.   Are we doing something in order to avoid it continues happening?

Have you ever imagined how it would be if instead of roaming down the streets, children and teenagers practiced sports?

And what do you say about the famous Hookah?   What do you think if we change it for a trumpet or any other musical instrument?     Wouldn’t it be a good idea?

Another thing is the excessive use of cellphones.  As we know they are very important nowadays, but many people fall in addiction by the use of these and its applications.   Wouldn’t it be better if instead of to spend too many hours texting we took a book for Reading?

Aah! To get over it.   How it would be if instead going to parties where sex, drogs and alcohol are incited teenagers went to a recreation park?   Don’t you think that everything would be better in that way?

Fallow these advices and help the world to get better.
