I remember I was teaching my Advanced English I students, and the textbook suggested an activity in which they should write about an imaginary invention. That class took place during the second semester of 2017. See what was in three of my students' minds. Do you think those inventions are being worked on? or do they already exist? Do you think humankind might ever have the chance to use them?

SPECIAL
UMBRELLA
By
ISILENI DESCHAMPS
I have seen many objects that could be useful for us in
order to make our lives simpler, but I've never seem something better than a
special umbrella. Maybe you're asking to yourself, what makes that umbrella so
special? It is because of the way it is made and the different things it can
do, that you can not do with a regular one. This umbrella can be taken anywhere
and nobody will notice you're carrying something. It can become foldable in a
way that it can look like a cell phone case. And something really amazing about it is that you
don’t have to worry about getting your pants and shoes wet anymore, because
this "Special Umbrella" will cover your whole self. Doesn’t it sound
great? For me it does!

DESSERT MAKER
By Vianelis Almanzar Alvarado
Wouldn’t it be amazing if you
had any dessert you want? Doesn’t it sound good to eat it when you want, right
the way you want it? Science, technology, and sugar lovers are making that
possible, thanks to the newest invention, ‘’The Dessert Maker.’’ This machine,
which looks like a microwave, has a sensor that reads
your thoughts and discovers what your body is desiring at the moment (cake,
cheese cake, ice cream, pudding, apple pie or anything you could imagine). When
the sensor identifies what you want, it sends a command to the machine, which
immediately starts making and serving the dessert. The best part is that the
process takes only from 5 to 15 minutes, depending on the kind of dessert. It
is just incredible, isn’t it? The dessert maker works with 6 triple A batteries
and it is auto washable.
