One Saturday morning, my Advanced English I students and I did quick writing as usual. That time, I did not narrate, describe, or analyze anything. What came out of my mind was what served as the raw material for FACE DOWN, a poem. As always, I shared the result of my quick writing with my students. Then they followed. Does the poem show a particular problem? What is it? How does the poem point out aspects of your reality?
NOTE: Before reading the poem, take a look at this landscape I witnessed when driving from Santo Domingo to teach in San Francisco de Macorís very early in the morning. Besides this amazing sunrise, what called my attention the most was the mist over the rice plantation. What is your impression about this photo?

FACE DOWN
By Máximo
Encarnación Gomera
When did the screen let you see
The flight of a bird?
I asked a young boy
He did not even look up
Did it let you see
The beauty of the shinning moon
the other night?
When did you last see it?
I asked him again
I notice that light
Does not let you notice
The changing colors in the sky
The sun came out and was bright
A beautiful poem could appear
Impossible
it was
Poetry, poetry
Blocked by the screen
Words for creating
Imaginative worlds
Can they show easily?
Questions and sorrows
Usually invade me
Santo Domingo 2018
My first time visiting your blog: a positive impression.
