THE CLASSROOMS AT THE UNIVERSIDAD AUTONOMA DE SANTO
DOMINGO, RECINTO SAN FRANCISCO DE MACORIS
By Aneiry Santos
How are the
classrooms at the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo, Recinto San Francisco de Macorís? Everyone could imagine that this higher learning center has the best
conditions in its classrooms, including an excellent organization and the
necessary materials for teaching and learning. Classrooms are very important.
Working in clean and organized classrooms is good for teachers and students.
Unfortunately, they have some problems that do not make them the best
classrooms.
The hygiene in the
classrooms at the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo, Recinto San Francisco de Macorís is not very good.
Everybody can see how the classrooms look. Although some of them are clean,
others are not. The vast majority is dirty, with trash on their floors and dust
on their furniture. Many classrooms sometimes do not have the proper conditions
for teaching and learning. The smell of dust, the dirty walls, and the mess on
the floors is what the students and teachers find in their classrooms. In
addition, a few students consider that the authorities of this higher learning
center must contribute to solve this problem because it is difficult to work in
dirty classrooms. They also consider that the employees of the stewardship
department, which is in charge of the hygiene in all the classrooms, should
take more care about it, but the employees say that they are doing their job
and the students do not help. In the meantime, some pupils recommend that this
higher learning center should organize teams of employees that tell students
how to keep the classrooms clean, and motivate them by using different
resources like posters, speeches, wastebaskets, and so on.
Furthermore, there
are some needs that the classrooms at the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo,
Recinto San Francisco deMacorís have. First of all, it is important to mention that a
few classrooms have the necessary materials for teaching and learning. One of
those classrooms is the Modern Languages Room, The Digital Room, and The
Computer Lab. On the other hand, others do not have more than three desks and a
board. It is incredible to see empty classrooms, without desks, boards, wastebaskets,
teachers´ desks, and so on. Many classrooms need enough fans, new boards,
desks, and computer projectors. The opinion of a few students is that the
authorities from this higher learning center are not paying attention to the
needs in the classrooms. However the materials are not the only things that the
classrooms need. Many of them need paint, new doors, and repair in their
ceilings and walls.
Another topic that
is not receiving much attention is the organization of the classrooms. Although
there are some organized classrooms with the teachers´ and students´ desks very
well located, others are very disorganized. The desks and chairs are in
different places. The classrooms look like a mess. After each term, the pupils
leave the classrooms messy and some teachers do not tell them anything about
organization. Some teachers consider that students know what to do about
organization because they are not kids. In contrast, learners guess that it is
the responsibility of the teachers to tell them what to do about organization.
Also, the students do not offer their help and do not know the importance of
having organized classrooms.
In conclusion,
hygiene, organization, and needs are not receiving enough attention at
Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo, Recinto San Francisco de Macorís. The
classrooms are the most important places of this higher learning center. It
depends on students, teachers, and authorities to have a better place, but they
are not offering enough help.
